A story full of visual surprises

One of the biggest questions that writers must confront is “where to put the biggest surprises in a story.”

Here is a Steve Rhodes story (Indianapolis) that takes a while to run up to the end of the conflict and reveal the big story surprise.  Imagine the story if he had opened the story with the surprise and worked backward.  You would have never stayed with the story.
